  • March 15, 2011

ASH Scotland, Alcohol Focus Scotland and Scottish Health Action on Alcohol Problem

The summit is an opportunity for all those involved in countering the damaging effects of alcohol and tobacco to Scotland’s health, social relations and economy to come together to hear the latest analysis and ideas from professionals involved in the field of public health. Importantly we will be looking to delegates to consider what alcohol and tobacco can learn from each other, and contribute towards proposing new solutions through Question & Answer sessions, facilitated table discussions, and panel discussions.

Experts contributing to this important Summit include:

  • Professor Sir Ian Gilmore, former President of the Royal College of Physicians (London)
  • Dr Laurence Gruer OBE, Director of Public Health Science with NHS Health Scotland
  • Dr Jeff Collin, Director, Global Public Health Unit, University of Edinburgh
  • Professor Gerard Hastings, Director of the Institute for Social Marketing, University of Stirling.

In addition delegates will hear directly from policy makers with an address from Cabinet Secretary for Health & Wellbeing Nicola Sturgeon and a participative Question Time style debate with the Health Spokespeople of the five parties represented at Holyrood:

  • Ross Finnie MSP, Scottish Liberal Democrats
  • Cllr Alison Johnstone, Scottish Green Party
  • Shona Robison MSP, Scottish National Party
  • Mary Scanlon MSP, Scottish Conservatives
  • Dr Richard Simpson MSP, Scottish Labour Party.

The summit fee is £80. Details are on ASH Scotland’s website.
